The Story of Jaw, the Orangutan

On December 19, 2007, Jaw, a female orangutan, was rescued from the cruel “tourist entertainment” industry in Bangkok, where she was forced to perform in orangutan boxing shows. Along with her companions Yok-Yek, Toui, and Joy, Jaw had been subjected to abuse and exploitation, including starvation, intimidation, and drugging. These young orangutans were taken from the wild as infants and trained to perform for tourists.

At the time of their rescue, Jaw was 7 years old, Yok-Yek was 7, Toui was 6, and Joy was 5. After overcoming bureaucratic challenges, they were brought to Borneo and cared for at the OFI Care Centre. It was here that they began to heal from their traumatic experiences, learning to trust again and adapt to a safer environment. Today, Jaw and her companions live in a sanctuary, where they are being prepared for their eventual return to the wild.

Our Commitment to Orangutan Conservation

Our partnership with OFI is a key part of our dedication to conservation. With every tub of Nuttelex Zero sold, we are supporting orangutan rehabilitation and rainforest protection. Through our donations, we contribute directly to the care of over 340 rescued orangutans at the Borneo based OFI Care Centre, providing medical care, shelter, and the support needed to prepare them for release.

We also support the Orangutan Legacy Forest Project, which works to purchase and protect critical forest land in Borneo. This project helps ensure that rehabilitated orangutans have a safe space to return to once they’re ready to be released into the wild. By choosing Nuttelex Zero, our customers are helping us make a real difference in the long-term conservation of orangutans and their rainforest homes.

A Future for Orangutans

Through partnerships with organisations like Nuttelex and the continued efforts of Dr. Galdikas and her team, there is hope for a sustainable future for orangutans in Borneo. The purchase and protection of rainforest land through the Orangutan Legacy Forest project will provide orangutans with a safe place to return to once they have completed their rehabilitation, ensuring that they can thrive in the wild once again.
