Modern slavery statement

Introduction

This Modern Slavery Statement has been prepared by Nuttelex Food Products Pty to demonstrate our commitment to ensuring there is no modern slavery in our operations and supply chain. This statement covers the financial year 2024.

About Us

We are a small family-owned Australian company with a rich history in Australian Food Manufacturing. We were established in 1932 and we are based in Knoxfield, Victoria. We produce plant oil enriched table spreads, and our products are 100% Australian made. We have a small and dedicated, innovative team working in our business.

As a leading producer in the food industry, we welcome the Commonwealth Modern Slavery Act 2018, and the opportunity to raise awareness of this important issue and to demonstrate the steps we are taking in this area. We are guided by our family values, and we provide consumers with healthy alternative choices, and we do not to use artificial additives, preservatives, colourings, saturated animal fats, dairy, extra salt, or sweeteners that may be found in other products. Our basic philosophy has not changed since we started, which is why our products have been recommended by doctors and dietitians for decades as a uniquely versatile option for those interested in a healthy lifestyle.

Our values of respect, integrity, team working, innovation and ethical behaviour are core to what we do, and we provide a workplace where our team members can perform to the best of their abilities. We employ a dedicated high performing, diverse team and we foster a culture of respect, inclusion, and diversity in a healthy, safe well equipped working environment.

Our Executive Team is responsible for overseeing our human rights program and monitors the effectiveness of our policies and initiatives in the business.

Our Value Chain

Sourcing

We ensure that all our raw materials, services and chemicals are responsibly and sustainably sourced. Part of our philosophy is to support Australian businesses and where possible our raw materials, services and packaging are sourced from within Australia from our long-term supply partners. For all materials and services sourcing we evaluate our suppliers through our Approved Supplier Programme to ensure that human rights risks and environmental risks are carefully assessed and meet our ethical standards.

To assess our suppliers, we use a supplier assessment which contains specific obligations to ensure that the supplier:

  • does not engage in any conduct or omission in breach of modern slavery laws;
  • that the supplier is not aware of any risks present in its operations and supply chains that may contravene modern slavery laws, or if it is aware of such risks, that it has taken appropriate action to mitigate, remediate and reduce those risks;
  • must ensure that in their dealings with Nuttelex Food Products Pty Ltd they do not engage in any conduct which may contravene any modern slavery laws;
  • must ensure they comply with our policies relating to modern slavery;
  • must promptly notify us if it becomes aware of a possible (or actual) breach of any modern slavery laws; and
  • must implement policies and procedures to ensure that it and its staff comply withthe above obligations.

Sustainable Production

We strive to reduce the environmental footprint we create through our high-tech automated plant operations and our sustainability agenda. In our manufacturing processes, our production yield rate is 97% and any unacceptable product is recycled through our waste partners. In day-to-day operations, we use solar power; wastewater recycling, packaging recycling and we donate additional excess product produced to localfoodbanks.

As part of our sustainability agenda, we created a completely palm oil free product; Nuttelex with Coconut Oil. From each purchase of this product, we donate 5 cents to The Orangutan Foundation International Australia to help us preserve & protect Borneo’s orangutans. This directly supports the Orangutan Legacy Forest project in the purchase and protection of essential rainforest habitat for the long-term conservation of orangutans.

Transport and Distribution

We distribute our range of plant oil enriched spreads via our Australian grocery wholesale and retail customers’ distribution networks. Our transport providers are evaluated through our Approved Supplier Programme.

We are committed to supplying quality, safe, and consistent products, which comply to legal requirements. Our commitment is to supply products that meet the expectations of our customers and consumers. This is achieved through:
