This decadent but simple toastie-treat is perfect for brunch, lunch or a comforting late night snack. Feel free to add your own extra touch such as a 1/2 teaspoon of dried raisins, currants or even a sliced dried date when sauting the apples.
NEW in Australia and NZ try this recipe with our new extra rich Baking Blend- it's rich like butter but totally dairy-free & lactose free!!
Slice the apple into 2 cm-thick pieces.
Then, in a frypan over medium heat, add the apples, Nuttelex, salt, cinnamon and cardamon (and optional currents or raisons) and sauté until deliciously tender (about 5 minutes).
Next, pour in the maple syrup and allow the apples to caramelise for a few seconds, stir, and then turn the heat off.
Toast your sourdough bread, spread it with Nuttelex (or a tasty nut butter), then top with the caramelised apples, drizzle with the spiced syrup and a sprinkle of fresh thyme.
